This past week the Vice-President of the United States said something so ghastly, that it sparked abundant criticism from many Leftists inhabiting Twitter. So, what triggered this outrage from those on the Left? Based on the amount of keyboard warriors mudslinging the VP, one would think his “secretive” support for shock therapy surfaced (he supports no such thing, despite the character assassination attempted from the Left), or perhaps he kicked a sick puppy. As it turns out, it was neither of those things. In fact, it was nothing even mildly on par with them. What surfaced was an interview in 2002 in which Pence said he never eats alone with any woman other than his wife, and that he refrains from attending events with alcohol in the absence of Karen (his wife).
I know it may seem foreign to those who worship at the Clintonian Altar, but there are those in this world who choose to be faithful to their spouse. As many Conservatives on Twitter pointed out, in various and nuanced ways, liberal idol Bill Clinton is perhaps the antithesis of Pence. It was, after all, “Slick Willy” who was caught with his pants down giving his intern direction of a more hands-on variety. Perhaps the greatest headline on this issue can be attributed to The Daily Wire. Author, Hank Berrien, wrote an article titled “Left Goes Nuts Over Reports Pence Will Only Eat Alone With His Wife. As Opposed To Clinton, Who Would Only Eat Alone With Any Woman Who Wasn't.”
Yet the lecturing of Pence continued. Slate, in all its infinite wisdom, published an article in which the author accuses Pence of subscribing to a religious doctrine of sorts that “doesn’t respect women as humans with thoughts and skills to contribute but rather sees them primarily as sexual temptations.” Ah yes and we have now arrived at the crux of the issue. After doing no small amount of mental gymnastics, one can now arrive at the conclusion that Mike Pence is a member of the notorious Patriarchy imposing his medieval beliefs on society. And for supposed pro-choice ideologues, they sure like to usurp the Pence’s choice on how to conduct their marriage. Clearly, for any reasonable being, this is all absurdity in the highest degree.
The larger issue at hand, however, is that seemingly every new day brings some fresh revelation at which collective fury is directed. Some examples of recent memory are Senate Democrat’s criticism of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch’s high crime of objectively applying the law as written (his very job description), rather than manipulating law to fit his subjective opinion. Additionally, a woman wearing a hijab was pictured walking past a victim of the London terror attack, and was accused of being indifferent to the situation by many on the reactionary-right. In fact, she was not indifferent at all. Or even Trump’s new budget which cut funding for PBS and Meals on Wheels, among other things. Scenes of Elmo being laid off were circulated as illustrated truth. Fact is, Elmo has nothing to worry about, because HBO has actually bought “Sesame Street” which will essentially prevent the bankruptcy of the famed children’s show. As for Meals on Wheels, they could be thanking the President. Due to his proposed cut, the organization raised over $100,000 in a two-day span. It turns out, when one delves further into the details, the rage-fest becomes trivial. But many continue to operate at the surface level and thus make fools of themselves when more detail emerges.
This descent into madness only creates a “boy who cried wolf” situation. When something actually worthy of outrage occurs, it will only fall on deaf ears. The crazed rage-monkey is gradually becoming the standard rather than the outlier. Can everyone just agree to take a deep breath and gather our thoughts, as well as facts, before the keyboard pounding ensues? That’s probably too much to ask of those obsessed with instant gratification and superseding narrative.
As for the Vice-President and his wife, let them set the marital bounds at which they are comfortable. Next time news breaks, before blowing a gasket, take time to process the information instead of conducting yourself like a crap-slinging monkey at the zoo. You might just be making a mountain out of a molehill.
